What ADF Druids Believe
It's very difficult to say exactly what beliefs any individual Druid will hold. We are bound together in Our Druidry not by mutual adherence to a particular creed or set of beliefs, but by the common practices that we share — in technical terms, we are a religion of orthopraxy rather than orthodoxy. To paraphrase an old joke: ask thirteen Druids for their opinion on any matter and you may well get fourteen different answers!
Despite the wide variance in individual Druids' beliefs, there are some core ideas that most of us share to some degree. Among these are:
- Nature is sacred. Protecting our planetary home is a duty.
- Nature is full of diversity, and as part of Nature, so is the Divine: there are many Gods and Goddesses.
- Nature's diversity is to be celebrated: differences in gender, sexuality, culture, size, abilities, etc. are evidence of a healthy ecosystem and not a justification for oppression.
- Ethics and morality should be based upon joy, love, self-esteem, mutual respect, the avoidance of actual harm to ourselves and others, and the increase of public benefit.
- Human beings were meant to lead lives filled with joy, love, pleasure, beauty and humor.
